McIntyre Pushes To Help Lower Flood Insurance Rates
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre is pushing to help lower flood insurance rates and address the affordability of flood insurance coverage.
Congressman McIntyre stated, “Increased flood insurance rates are hurting coastal homeowners and communities, and this issue must be addressed. At a time when our housing market is starting to rebound, increased rates will hamper that recovery and hurt our economy. Arbitrarily raising flood insurance rates disproportionately hurts our coastal communities and adds unnecessary burdens to home ownership. We need to be creating jobs and helping our communities thrive, and I will keep working to stop this increase in flood insurance. ”
McIntyre recently joined several of his congressional colleagues in sending a letter to the Administrator of FEMA requesting that he address administratively affordability issues arising from the Flood Insurance Reform Act (FIRA). In addition, McIntyre has supported congressional measures to delay portions of implementation of the FIRA so that affordability of insurance premiums can be resolved in a timely manner.
