McIntyre Presented Coastal Guardian Award
Washington, DC – For his longstanding advocacy for coastal communities, beaches, and waterways, U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre has been presented the “Coastal Guardian” Award by the North Carolina Beach, Inlet, and Waterway Association (NCBIWA). The award was for the Congressman’s “service above and beyond to the coast of North Carolina.”
After receiving the award at the annual meeting of mayors, town councils, county commissioners and other persons and organizations involved in beach protection, dredging, and waterway issues, Congressman McIntyre stated, “North Carolina’s coast is an economic engine and environmental jewel. Working together, we will continue to protect and enhance the vitality of our coast for generations to come. I am honored to receive this award, and I thank the great leaders and citizens of NCBIWA who share in our vision of a bountiful and prosperous coast.”
During the meeting, Congressman McIntyre challenged NCBIWA to continue forging partnerships at every level to work collectively on coastal issues. In addition, Congressman McIntyre discussed his efforts on a number of legislative issues including federal flood insurance, the Water Resources Development Act, protection of loggerhead sea turtles, and coastal funding for our area.
