Washington,
D.C. - Last week, Congressman McIntyre spoke at the National Press Club
in support of youth participation in sports and physical education. As
a Co-Chairman and Co-Founder of the Congressional Caucus on Youth
Sports, the Congressman understands the importance of youth sports as a
way for children to build character and healthy lifestyles. Congressman
McIntyre stated, “When we work together to make sure that our young
athletes are healthy and safe then they can focus on having fun,
enjoying the sport and learning those great values we know that youth
sports, physical education, and athletic participation can teach.”
The
numerous benefits reaped by children's involvement in sports - better
grades, excellent interpersonal skills and a healthier lifestyle - are
especially important at a time when an increasing number of children
are battling childhood obesity. As one who has earned a black belt in
Taekwondo, the Congressman wants children to know that sports are not
only a track to healthy living but are fun, too! It is important that
America’s youth have the opportunity and incentive to participate in
youth sports.
Congressman
McIntyre has consistently worked on initiatives that focus on giving
young women and men the necessary resources that build confidence and
self-esteem through their accomplishments on the field, in the
classroom, and in the community. By supporting youth sports, we support
building happy and healthy communities in Southeastern North Carolina.
